Written Assignment #2
Part 1:
Multimedia means being able to communicate in a variety of ways.
I think integrating multimedia in an art classroom would not only support
the learning process but, give students the experience of listening, visualizing
with a hands on opportunity to be creative with computers and other peripherals.
I also believe multimedia, in an art classroom, would make learning about art
more interesting and exciting for students. It would definitely motivate students
to help them achieve a better understanding of art.
Part 2:
PORTAL SITES:
A) Name of Site: Education World® The Educator's Best Friend
URL: http://www.educationworld.com/
Site Comments: The
site reminds me of an online flea market. A bit too busy for my taste. The
banner ads were driving me nuts. There is so much on the pages, that the loading
time is slow. I only saw one alt tag img located on top left side (their logo,
which says EdWorld Home). It is a very informative site. The techtorial was
fun under the Technology Integration menu button. According to many sites,
Education World provides the Internet's largest and most powerful education-specific
search engine, linking to hundreds of thousands of pre-screened sites. The
site also offers DAILY original content — lesson-planning activities,
curriculum ideas, education site reviews, worldwide education employment listings,
forums and education news to assist the education community online. Not bad
under one web site. This site, to me is more for teachers than students.
B) Name of Site:
TeacherNet
URL: http://teachernet.com/
Site Comments: I
use to read Highlights as a child and, enjoyed going down memory lane at this
web site. The web
site is mostly geared for K-8 teachers. It is full of features and resources
perfect for students. I like that each month one of the publisher's on the
site, Teaching Pre K-8, reviews outstanding products for the classroom.
CONTENT RESOURCES:
C) Name of Site: The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Explore & Learn
URL: http://www.metmuseum.org/explore/classroom.asp
Site Comments: It
is full of rich content and excellent graphics. It's a bit on the boring side
but hey, it's the Met. It is an excellent source of art history facts, especially
the printed publications online in PDF format. This site would be a great
resource for myself and students.
D) Name of Site:
NGACLASSROOM
For Teachers and Students
URL: http://www.nga.gov/education/classroom/
Site Comments: The
site consists of a Resource Finder that permits teachers to search the extensive
collection of lessons and resources on the site. For students, there are two
interactive game-like activities. This site is one of my favorites because
of Resource Finder with scroll down menus that allow access to lessons and
resources by curriculum, topic, or artist. I enjoyed the ancient arcade matching
game, testing my Greek and Roman history knowledge. The "featured lessons" breaks
them down by grades which is great for universal teaching strategies. Although my certificate will say K-12 Art, I really wish to teach Elementary.
(just for fun)
An awesome interaction site I found surfing the net: ODYSSEY

Part 3:
Setting up an art classroom with electronics involved is a challenge. Always have a first aid kit. The computer station needs to be as far away as possible from the sinks and drying racks with the wires fastened together. I would probably set up the computer station near my desk in the corner for better supervision. When introducing art software and computer, the key is to develop ways to support all learners according to their individual strengths and needs. Remember, not every student will be on the same level. The software purchased is geared toward all levels from beginner to advanced so, all students can enjoy the experience. With virtual imagery at the students finger tips, more tools to enhance creativity, art appreciation will take on a whole new meaning. From a stroke of a brush to a click of a mouse children will become well rounded in art. If the class is large, computer time would be broken down into half the class working on the computers and the other working on a more traditional art project. I would assign each student to a particular computer and a file so that there is no time wasted for searching for their file. Before class starts, make sure the computers and software are working. Students need some indication as to how long to spend on the project so other students get a chance to create. Keep a computer rule chart with the center and, make sure every student clearly understands and knows the consequences for not adhering to them. Create simple projects like color/paint your favorite animal. When wrapping up, have the students talk about their picture.
